This week, two oil tankers were attacked near the Strait of Hormuz. Within seeming minutes, US SoS Mike Pompeo was issuing a statement which blamed Iran for the attacks. No investigation, no evidence, no statements from any country or group that we know of. If any statements were made by another entity other than Iran, chances are we will never be allowed to know about it.
The Iranian government has denied any responsibility for the attack and there is no reason to doubt their innocence. There is every reason to disbelieve Pompeo.
Pompeo’s statement was, “This assessment is based on intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping, and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high-degree of sophistication.
The United States will defend its forces, interests, and stand with our partners and allies to safeguard global commerce and regional stability. And we call upon all nations threatened by Iran’s provocative acts to join us in that endeavor.”
First thing to note is how precise his wording is. “no proxy group operating in the area” is far too specific. Perhaps there are no proxy groups with the capabilities to carry out such an attack in the area. However, there are several nations with the capabilities to carry out such an attack directly. Saudi Arabia, Israel and the US immediately come to mind.
He refers to recent Iranian attacks on shipping. That’s interesting because I don’t recall any attacks by Iran on any ships in decades, perhaps even in my lifetime. Do you?
Something else interesting is that he refers to “safeguard(ing) global commerce” and defending US forces and interests. That’s nice because nothing belonging to the US has been attacked.
There are a number of signs that this attack was a false flag operation. A video surfaced showing an Iranian vessel next to the ship after the attack. The US claims that the Iranian vessel was removing a mine from the ship which had not detonated. Thing to keep in mind about mines is that they will detonate against any ship that comes in contact with them. Besides, how would Iranians know there was a mine attached to the ship which had not detonated before they even got to the ship to see it?
The ship owners have objected to this claim for a number of reasons. First, the damage to the ships was above the water line, which completely negates the damage being done by a mine or torpedo. Then the crew on the ships saw something flying at the ship. Mines and torpedoes do not fly.
One of the ships attacked was a Japanese ship and the other was bound for Japan. Considering this, the timing of this attack makes absolutely no sense for Iran to have conducted the attack. At the exact moment of the attack, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe was in Iran, conducting diplomatic talks to try and reduce tensions. So, even if Iran attacked any ship at all, ships connected to Japan would make the least sense of all.
What has been well documented is that Iran sent ships to rescue the crew members of both vessels. Saudi Arabia didn’t send rescue ships. The US didn’t send rescue ships. Israel didn’t send rescue ships. Only Iran did.
Iran would have nothing to gain by such an attack and much to potentially lose. While Saudi Arabia, Israel and the US would have much to “gain” (sic) by conducting an attack and blaming Iran.
Consider the history of each country named here:
Iran has not invaded another country since 1798. They openly give support to rebels in Yemen who are fighting against Saudi Arabia. They have supported Hezbollah for many years while Hezbollah has defended against Israeli invasions and terrorist groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and Palestine. Iran has forces in Syria helping to fight against ISIS and Al Qaeda. In each of these cases, Iran has openly stated their support for proxy groups and are quite openly fighting in Syria.
Saudi Arabia is conducting what is globally recognized as genocide in Yemen, while they have funded and armed Al Qaeda and ISIS. They are opposed to any country in the Middle East which is Shia Muslim, especially Iran and Syria.
Israel has been illegally occupying Palestine and part of Syria for over 50 years while trying to completely eliminate the Palestinian people. They vehemently oppose Iranian military in Syria and have directly attacked Iranian military forces in Syria, which should be considered acts of direct aggression which would justify a declaration of war by both Syria and Iran against Israel. Israel has been proven and eventually admitted to giving aid and support to Al Qaeda attacking Syria. Israel has at some time claimed that every single country bordering them has attacked them, each time with no evidence, yet used the claim to attack each country. Plus countries that do not directly border Israel. Israel has been attempting to drag the US into a war with Iran for many years.
The US is documented to have manufactured events which have led to conflicts around the globe for over a century, from the Spanish-American War to the invasion of Iraq and the bombing of Syria. Bolton has been trying to manufacture an excuse to attack and invade Iran for decades. Pompeo seems to want war with any country not under our thumb.
Each of these countries governments would love nothing better than to invade Iran and remove the government. They believe this would also weaken Syria, which would come next, as Iran has been a major force strengthening the Syrian defense against terrorist proxy groups which have been backed by all three governments. Then cause both countries to fall, carve them up and commandeer the resources of both countries between them while making riches for the US military contractors who would supply the weapons for this endeavor.
One thing to keep in mind is that Russia, China, India and Europe conduct trade with Iran. None are going to sit idly by while all of this happens. For one thing, they are not going to sit on their hands as the US Empire stretches and tightens its iron fist over more of the planet, while they know full well that they will be next. US sanctions, tariffs and militaristic threats make it clear that they are on the list for future invasions.
So, if other countries are not going to simply allow this to happen, Iran could very well be what incites WWIII if the manufactured excuses for war continue. Americans cannot sit by blindly while this happens. It will be Americans paying for this war while corporations profit. It will be American citizens fighting, most likely drafted to fight this war. This would be a war like none we have fought before. We have seen that more countries are becoming more opposed to us on a daily basis. This could well be the last straw which turns most of the world against the US while mobilizing a large segment of the US population to finally stand up against our warmongering corporate government.
Who knows? Maybe even the media may finally say that enough is enough. Though I won’t be holding my breath.
